Working for you: empty roads. The drive across the coverage area that takes forty minutes at 5pm takes fifteen at 2am — Route 114 with no traffic is a different road. Working against you: thin coverage. Overnight there are fewer vans working the same ground, so the one that takes your call may be mid-job on the far side of it, and your wait is their remaining work plus the drive.

Storms do a smaller version. On those nights even the honest operators are quoting long windows — the difference is they say so instead of promising fifteen minutes and arriving in ninety.

If your situation genuinely cannot absorb the wait — cold exposure, an unsafe corner, a running car with keys inside — say exactly that when you call, because it changes your triage position. And on the worst nights, warming up somewhere while you wait is not giving up; it is what the operator would tell you to do anyway.

You control more of the clock than you think. Exact address with the entrance spelled out — night houses hide their numbers. Access notes up front: the gate code, the garage level, which side of the building. Year, make and model if it is a car, so the right tooling is on the van the first time. Phone charged and answered, because a van that cannot reach you on arrival starts a second wait.

The one that saves the most: call the moment you know you are stuck, not after twenty minutes of coat-hanger optimism. The queue position you get is the one that exists when you dial — every minute spent trying the window channel yourself is a minute someone else's call moved ahead of yours in the overnight queue.
