Lost every car key and have no spare
The car has to be told to forget the old keys and accept a new one. That is the job, and it can almost always be done where the car sits.

Why losing the last key is a different job
With one working key in hand, a second can usually be cloned or added quickly — the car already trusts a key, and it is being asked to trust one more. With every key gone, nothing in the car recognizes anything, and the work starts from the immobilizer itself.
That means reading the vehicle's security data through the diagnostic port, cutting a blade to match the lock, and programming a fresh key against the module — usually while erasing the lost ones so they cannot start the car if they turn up in the wrong hands. On some makes there is a security delay built into the vehicle, ten to thirty minutes of the car simply refusing to cooperate, and nobody can shorten it. When you are quoted a longer window for an all-keys-lost job, that wait is usually most of it.
Yes, it can nearly always be done where the car is
The assumption that a car with no key has to be towed somewhere is mostly out of date. The programming equipment is portable and runs off the car's own diagnostic port, so a driveway in South Lawrence, a spot on the street off Broadway, or a work lot in the industrial stretch along the Merrimack all work fine. The van comes to the car.
What matters is access, not location. The vehicle needs to be reachable and there needs to be somewhere safe to work beside it for the better part of an hour. If the car is in a tight parking garage or wedged into a space with no room to open a door fully, say so — it is workable, it just changes the plan. This is the bulk of what originating a brand new key from scratch involves, and it is the same job whether the car is at home or where it stopped.
You will be asked to prove the car is yours
Expect to show a registration, title, or insurance document with your name on it, plus photo ID that matches. Have the VIN available — it is on the driver-side dash through the windshield, on the door jamb sticker, and on your registration.
This is not optional and it is not a formality. Making a key to a vehicle is making a key to something worth thousands of dollars that can be driven away. Anyone willing to skip that check for you is willing to skip it for whoever wants your car next. If you are locked out of a car registered to a spouse, a parent, or an employer, sort that out before the visit rather than discovering it on the spot.
Get a spare made while someone is already there
This is the single most useful thing on this page. Once the equipment is out and the car is programmed, adding a second key is a fraction of the work — the security wait has already been served, the data is already read, and the car already trusts the system. Doing it as a separate visit later means paying for the trip and the setup twice.
Nearly everyone who has just been through an all-keys-lost job says yes to a spare, and the ones who do not are usually the ones calling again. If you want to understand what you are actually paying for either way, what drives the cost of a replacement key lays out the four things that move the number.
